PA Man Arrest For Ontario County Phone Scam

On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m., members of the City of Geneva Police Department’s Detective
Bureau arrested Abhishek Rameshbh Patel, a resident of Pennsylvania, for Grand Larceny in the Second Degree. The
Detective Bureau determined that on two separate occasions in June, Abhishek Patel contacted a City of Geneva resident
via telephone and scammed the victim out of approximately $80,000. Abhishek Patel impersonated a Federal Trade
Commission Officer and convinced the victim that they owed money. The Detective Bureau lured Abhishek Patel back
to Geneva with the understanding that he would be collecting additional money. Abhishek Patel returned the victim’s
address, collected what he believed was additional money, and left the area. Shortly after this transaction, the Geneva
Road Patrol Division conducted a traffic stop on Abhishek Patel and arrested him. The Detective Bureau believes that
Abhishek Patel has committed this scam in several other jurisdictions throughout New York State. Abhishek Patel was
transported to the Geneva Police Department, processed, and transported to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.
Abhishek Patel was released from CAP on his own recognizance to answer to the charges at a later date.
