While early voting has been going on for over a week, today is Primary Day.
Republican voters in Ontario County will head to the polls to choose between District Attorney James Ritts and challenger Jason MacBride. The race is the only countywide primary and has drawn scrutiny over ethics and leadership. MacBride, a veteran prosecutor, entered the race after criticizing a courthouse party hosted by Ritts that included costumes and karaoke. Ritts, seeking a third term, defends the event as tradition and points to a high conviction rate as evidence of success.
In Seneca Falls five Republicans and two Democrats are running for two seats on the Town Board.
In Cayuga County two towns are holding Republican primaries. Four candidates are vying for two spots on the general election ballot for Springport town council. Two Republicans are seeking the party’s nomination for Springport highway superintendent, and in Summerhill two candidates are vying for the GOP nomination for town supervisor.
