It’s now easier for Cayuga County pet owners to get their animals microchipped.

Thanks to Goulds Water Technology and Xylem, the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York is offering free microchips now through December 31 when people sign up through the shelter’s low-cost spay/neuter program.

According to the SPCA, one in three pets will go missing at some point in their lives. Microchips increase the possibility of pets making it home safely because microchips contain a unique number to identify animals when scanned by a vet or shelter.

Anyone with questions about the process can contact the SPCA here.
