Jessica Bacher, President and CEO of the Yates County Chamber of Commerce, kicked off the awards presentation, stating that “We are all blessed to live and work in this community that is full of energy, ideas, and people who truly care.” These awards are not just about achievement, they’re about heart. “That’s why we’re here tonight—to lift each other up reflect and celebrate those that have given so much to make Yates County so special,” she added.
The following individuals, organizations, and businesses were honored for this year’s Community Awards:
- Snow Memorial Spirit Award: The Wall That Heals Committee were recognized for their outstanding dedication to community enrichment through volunteerism, leadership, collaboration, and engagement. This committee worked tirelessly to bring the traveling replica version of the Vietnam Memorial Wall to Yates County in August of 2024.
- Seager Memorial Pride Award: Phil and LaReta Riehl of Oak Hill Bulk Foods received this award for their uplifting spirit, not only in Yates County, but the Finger Lakes region. This award honors individuals who bring encouragement, positivity, and a strong sense of community to everything they do. Each Saturday from May through October, Phil and LaReta open their space and resources to a different local nonprofit organization. That nonprofit helps run the BBQ, and in return, Oak Hill shares the profits with that organization. Countless missions are supported through this simple but powerful model of partnership and giving.
- Maxwell Memorial (Director of the Year) Award: Mary Zelazny of Finger Lakes Community Health was honored for her long-standing commitment and service to both the Chamber and the broader Yates County community. Mary brings not just professional expertise to the table, but heart, integrity, and initiative. She’s a consistent voice of thoughtful insight and someone who steps forward when there’s work to be done. Whether serving on committees, helping shape strategies, or supporting local partnerships, Mary embodies servant leadership.
- Linehan Memorial (Business of the Year) Award: Keuka College was celebrated as the outstanding Chamber Member business of the year. This award recognizes a business that demonstrates excellence, innovation, and above all, their commitment to Yates County. Keuka College has been a cornerstone of Yates County for more than 130 years. From academic excellence to community partnerships, service-learning projects to economic impact, Keuka College’s influence reaches far beyond its campus.
“Keuka College is woven into the life of our community. That’s why we’re so proud to recognize the College. They continue to evolve, educate, and lead with intention, offering opportunity and growth for both students and the greater Yates County community,” Bacher commented.
