An accident involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger car on Interstate 86 in the Southern Tier on Monday resulted in the death of one of the drivers.
According to State Police, a preliminary investigation revealed that a 2024 Volvo tractor-trailer, driven by Imran Shahid, of Canada, collided with a 2002 Chevrolet sedan driven by John Miller, 67, of Lowman, resulting in significant front-end damage to both cars. The crash happened when the Chevy was traveling in the wrong direction on I-86. Miller was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries.
Responding units included members of the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU), the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit (CVEU), the New York State Department of Transportation, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), which responded due to a diesel fuel spill at the scene.
