Two people have been arrested for allegedly committing a burglary in the city of Ithaca.
Officers were dispatched to a business in the 100 block of East State Street shortly after 2 Wednesday morning for a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, officers found 47-year-old Michael Jones, Junior, inside and attempted to take him into custody. It is alleged that Jones resisted arrest and, after being placed into custody, he punched and spat in the face of a police officer.
Through their investigation, officers also learned of a second person allegedly involved in the burglary who had left the scene with merchandise from the store prior to their arrival. A search warrant executed at an apartment in the Asteri building turned up multiple items that were taken from the business. 32-year-old Ynasia Adams was arrested and charged with felony burglary.
Jones was charged with burglary and criminal mischief, both felonies, along with misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, and harassment.
Both were sent to Tompkins County Jail after their arraignments.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
