A detailed investigation into alleged fraudulent activity related to public assistance benefits in Ontario County resulted in the arrest of a 37-year-old Farmington man.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Jonatan Encamacion-Diaz had been receiving Department of Social Services benefits while failing to disclose income from his employment. The investigation, which was initiated following a report to the Sheriff’s Office, determined that Encamacion-Diaz was receiving DSS benefits and unreported income from employment between November of 2023 and March of this year.
Encamacion-Diaz was charged with felony grand larceny and will appear in Hopewell Town Court at a later date to answer the charge.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
