Waterloo BOE Discussing LGBTQ+ Issues

SHARE NOW

There has been recent discussion on social media surrounding LGBTQ+ visibility in the Waterloo school district.

Last night the conversation moved to the school board. Those advocating for the visibility and support of transgender students and faculty were wearing shirts and holding signs voicing their support.

A facebook post says a teacher wore a “Protect Trans Kids” t-shirt to school and was told it was “too political.” Some parents and community members then called for her termination.

Waterloo Superintendent of Schools Sarah Cupelli acknowledged the online discussion Cupelli read a statement which is currently the first thing to appear on your screen when visiting the district’s website.
