NY Surpasses 300th Licensed Cannabis Dispensary Opening

SHARE NOW

Over 300 licensed adult-use cannabis dispensaries are now open for business across the Empire State. According to the New York State Office of Cannabis Management, this milestone highlights the agency’s “continued dedication to building a thriving and equitable cannabis market.”

Since launching legal sales in December 2022, New York’s cannabis industry has generated over $1.06 billion in total retail sales, created more than 5,000 jobs statewide, and awarded 80% of retail licenses to Social and Economic Equity (SEE) applicants. One month into 2025, retail sales have exceeded $110 million, with dispensaries averaging $381,000 in monthly sales throughout 2024. With over 300 dispensaries now operating in communities across the state, the legal market continues to outpace expectations, creating jobs and reinvesting in communities impacted by past cannabis prohibition.

“New York’s cannabis industry is growing stronger every day, and the opening of over 300 licensed dispensaries is a testament to the resilience and dedication of our entrepreneurs,” said Felicia A.B. Reid, Acting Executive Director of The New York State Office of Cannabis Management. “Each new dispensary represents more opportunities for small businesses, more jobs for New Yorkers, and more reinvestment in the communities most affected by cannabis prohibition. We are proud to see this market thrive and will continue to support an inclusive, sustainable industry that benefits all.”

There are currently 307 dispensaries open for business across the Empire State. A full list of New York’s licensed, operational adult-use cannabis retailers is available here.
