An Elmira man has been charged with felony assault after he allegedly punched an 86-year-old woman in the face multiple times.
The Chemung County Sheriff’s Department reports the alleged incident in Southport resulted in the victim suffering a black eye and bruising. It is believed that 31-year-old Alexander Morales had been staying with the victim for several months before the January 2nd incident.
Morales was sent to Chemung County Jail after arraignment. Additional charges against Morales are pending the outcome of additional investigations.
Law enforcement did not provide a health update on the 86-year-old assault victim.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
