    Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 12 and 18 inches, with localized amounts up to 22 inches. Northwest winds gusting as high as 35 mph Monday afternoon will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow.

    Portions of central New York and northeast Pennsylvania.

    Until 7 PM EST Monday.
    IMPACTS
    Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.
    ADDITIONAL DETAILS
    Snowfall will likely be very heavy at times this afternoon into the evening with hourly rates potentially exceeding 2 inches per hour. The snow tapers down this evening. Temperatures will be very cold throughout this storm, hovering in the upper single digits to teens the entire time, with colder wind chills.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Persons are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If you must go outside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes will keep you warmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin to reduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and a hat will keep you from losing your body heat. Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.

UPDATE: Destiny USA Reopens After Threat Investigation

3:30 p.m. UPDATE: Destiny USA to reopen after temporary closure.  The Syracuse Police Department released the following statement:

In the morning hours of Friday, December 27th, the Syracuse Police Department was made aware of a specific threat to Destiny USA. Working closely with our local, state, and federal partners, as well as management at Destiny USA, it was quickly determined that this information was both specific and actionable. Therefore, with the public’s safety in mind, a decision was made, in conjunction with Destiny USA ownership, to suspend operations at Destiny USA based on the information received.

After an investigation, an individual was taken into custody without incident. There is no active threat to Destiny USA, and the mall will be reopening.

The safety and security of visitors, employees, and tenants remain our highest priority.​ We are proud to have a strong working partnership with the ownership group at Destiny USA, which enabled us to ensure that the public’s safety was paramount throughout this incident. We would also like to thank the multiple other law enforcement partners who helped us bring this situation to a positive and safe conclusion.

DEVELOPING: Destiny USA in Syracuse was closed by police Friday morning to investigate a potential threat. No other information has been released at this time.
