    WHAT
    Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 12 and 18 inches, with localized amounts up to 22 inches. Northwest winds gusting as high as 35 mph Monday afternoon will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow.
    WHERE
    Portions of central New York and northeast Pennsylvania.
    WHEN
    Until 7 PM EST Monday.
    IMPACTS
    Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.
    ADDITIONAL DETAILS
    Snowfall will likely be very heavy at times this afternoon into the evening with hourly rates potentially exceeding 2 inches per hour. The snow tapers down this evening. Temperatures will be very cold throughout this storm, hovering in the upper single digits to teens the entire time, with colder wind chills.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Persons are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If you must go outside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes will keep you warmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin to reduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and a hat will keep you from losing your body heat. Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.

Two State Troopers Involved in Upstate Accident

UPDATE:

The investigation determined Trooper Cody Stewart was traveling south on Interstate 81 in a marked patrol vehicle during whiteout conditions.

Trooper Stewart rear-ended a 2019 Dodge operated by Jordan Jock, from Madrid, NY. Trooper Stewart’s vehicle continued south and struck a second marked State Police vehicle that was parked on the shoulder for an unrelated motor vehicle accident. Trooper Brian Hollister, who was standing outside of the second patrol vehicle, was also struck.

Trooper Hollister was medically evaluated at Samaritan Hospital for a complaint of ankle pain and was later released.

State Police were assisted on the scene by the town of Watertown Ambulance, the town of Watertown Fire Department, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Transportation, and Roadside Warriors.

Two State Trooper vehicles were involved in a three-car accident Thursday afternoon in Jefferson County.

The accident happened at around 12:30 p.m. on Interstate 81 southbound in Watertown. One of the Trooper was injured and was taken to Smartian Hospital by Watertown Ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

The civilian driver was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing and additional details will be released.
