The Geneva Police Department has launched the Surveillance, Mapping and Reporting Technology (SMART) Camera Project for the residents it serves. The SMART Camera Project allows citizens and business owners to take a proactive role in fighting crime within the Ontario County city.
With the expansion of privately owned cameras such as Ring, Nest, Blink, and more, the Geneva Police Department is looking to identify homeowners and business owners in the community who would be willing to share their video footage with the Geneva Police Department should a crime happen nearby. Timely access to video evidence can be incredibly helpful for officers investigating crime in a specific area. Footage captured on your security cameras may help police gather information, develop leads, solve cases, and protect the public. The SMART Camerar Project ensures an easy and efficient way for residents to share their videos.
The SMART Camera Registry helps the police department develop a map of working security cameras throughout Geneva. With this map, officers have the ability to readily locate security cameras when investigating a crime in and out of the city.
With residents registering their video security system, Geneva Police will be able to identify your property location as having security camera(s). Officers will contact you directly if it is determined your camera may have captured valuable video evidence.
