Due to the lack of snow the Finger Lakes has been getting in November during recent years, one village is replacing its annual snow sculpture contest.

Speaking on FLX Morning with Ted Baker, Newark Mayor Johnathan Taylor announced the village will hold a tree decorating contest instead.

“We’ll have trees downtown that we’ll put lights on and then families or organizations, really anyone, can have a tree and we’ll have a tree decorating contest.”

The prizes normally given to winners of the snow sculpture contest will be given to the winners of the new contest.

Mayor Taylor added that the contest is only a small part of the village’s planned holiday festivities. Beginning at 5:00p on Saturday, November 30 (Small Business Saturday), with the Parade of Lights, there will also be the annual tree lighting ceremony, a performance by the Methodist Choir, and other activities.
