Tompkins County has made its pick for its next administrator. The Legislature will vote on the appointment of Korash Akumfi at its October 15th meeting. If approved, Akumfi will begin in his new position on December 9th. Akumfi is the current administrator in Schoharie County having been in that role since October of 2022.
Akumfi’s hiring follows a national search held by the Legislature and Tompkins County Human Resources. The Legislature will officially vote on Akumfi’s appointment on October 15 during its regular meeting.
Having a background in budget development and serving as the administrator in a New York State County was key to the Legislature’s selection said Chair Dan Klein. “Korsah comes to Tompkins County with recent experience in local government in New York. Tompkins County is excited to have his experience at Schoharie and his background in customer service and financial management.”
Akumfi has served in several workforce and employment-related positions at the New York State Department of Labor, as well as finance-related roles in Ghana and the United Kingdom. He has a Master of Public Administration from Binghamton University with an emphasis on economic development, local government management, and public policy and finance.
