One person died of an overdose in Steuben County in August. According to numbers just released by the Steuben County Public Health Department, 19 overdoses were reported in the county for August, one fatality was reported and in six instances, NARCAN was used to revive the individual.
In August, one of Steuben’s overdose records cited opioids as a suspected drug causing the overdose. Thirteen overdose records did not note a specific substance or were not able to be accessed for a full review, and the remaining 5 records indicated another substance was suspected to be the cause of an overdose. Other reported substances included alcohol, prescription drugs, and others.
“The 2024 overdoses to date are trending lower compared to 2023,” said Public Health Director, Darlene Smith. “This trend aligns with both the state and national trends of lower overdose reports. Steuben County and its partners strive to stay on track with this national trend.”
