SHARE NOW

Police arrested a Newark man for driving while intoxicated after he allegedly struck a mailbox with his car.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, 23-year-old Cameron Altenhof, of Newark, was observed by another motorist traveling north on Route 88 when he hit a mailbox. Deputies located Altenhof in the village of Sodus Sunday afternoon and reportedly observed him to be under the influence of alcohol and standardized field sobriety testing was administered. Altenhof’s failure to standardize field sobriety testing led to his arrest.

Altenhof was then transported to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for processing where Altenhof submitted to a chemical test which yielded a Blood Alcohol Content of .14%. Altenhof was transported to the Wayne County Jail for prints and photos before being released on traffic tickets.

Altenhof is to appear before the Sodus Town Court at a later date and time to answer the charges

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
