Schuyler County Habitat to Dedicate Fifth Home on Sunday

SHARE NOW

Schuyler County Habitat for Humanity will dedicate its fifth home on Sunday at 2:00 PM.

The newly renovated house, located at 126 Fifth Street in the village of Watkins Glen, will be open to the public for tours during the dedication ceremony. This event is a celebration of the hard work and commitment of Habitat for Humanity volunteers and supporters in Schuyler County.

The dedication ceremony will feature remarks from Robert Groll, President of Schuyler County Habitat for Humanity, and a blessing by Father Jeffrey Tunnicliff of Saint Mary’s Church. The house will be formally dedicated in thanksgiving to Jean Hubsch, in recognition of her loyal support of the organization.

The partner family, selected based on housing need, the ability to qualify for and hold a mortgage, and their willingness to partner in building the home, will soon take ownership of the house. The family will hold a mortgage with the USDA.

The home on Fifth Street is a significant renovation of a century-old structure, which required extensive work, including a complete gutting of the interior and the replacement of the foundation. Volunteers from Habitat for Humanity have been working diligently on the project for over a year, contributing their time and skills two mornings each week.

Photos of the renovation process can be viewed on Habitat’s website, and its Facebook page.

This marks the fifth home completed by Schuyler County Habitat for Humanity, with previous projects located in the Village of Montour Falls, the Town of Hector, and the Town of Dix.
