Maine Man Admits to Seneca County Crimes; Faces Up to 10 Years in Prison

A man who committed multiple robberies in Tyre earlier this year has accepted a plea deal that could see him spend up to a decade in prison.

Seneca County District Attorney John Nabinger announced that Ron Poore, a resident of Maine, pleaded guilty in Seneca County Court to felony counts of robbery and bail jumping. He is scheduled to be sentenced in September, where he could face between 3 1/3 and 10 years behind bars.

The incidents occurred on March 9 and 10. Poore first robbed a woman of $200 at an ATM at Love’s Travel Stop, fleeing the scene in an SUV that eluded responding officers. The next day, Poore stole $400 from a clerk at the Circle K store. Authorities said the description of the suspect and his vehicle matched the previous day’s incident. Later that day, Poore attempted to rob another victim at the Petro Travel Stop, threatening to use a gun, though he did not display one. The victim managed to fight him off.

Poore’s vehicle was eventually spotted in the parking lot at del Lago Resort & Casino. Police, working with del Lago security, coordinated a successful effort to apprehend Poore as he tried to flee the casino. Investigations revealed that the vehicle Poore was driving had been reported stolen in Gates, Monroe County, though it remains unclear why Poore was in upstate New York.

Initially, Poore was charged with third-degree robbery, as no firearm was displayed during the incidents. Under New York’s bail reform laws, these charges are not eligible for bail, leading to Poore’s release on his own recognizance after his arraignment. However, he failed to appear for a scheduled court date, prompting a warrant for his arrest. Poore was eventually apprehended in Maine and returned to Seneca County to face charges.

Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson has been critical of New York’s bail reform measures, expressing frustration after Poore’s initial release and subsequent failure to appear in court.
