Sheriff: Alcohol Behind Thursday Crash in Venice

SHARE NOW

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in a vehicle crash that happened last week in Cayuga County.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident happened just after 3:00p on Thursday on Lyons Rd near Sally Rd in Venice.

Larry Wilt, the vehicle’s sole occupant, was towing a trailer when he left the west shoulder of the roadway and crashed his pickup truck into a ditch, becoming trapped inside the vehicle. The 72-year-old Fleming man was able to be rescued after responders cut out the front windshield.

He was then taken to Auburn Community Hospital for medical treatment by Four Town Ambulance.

Following treatment, Wilt was subsequently arrested at the hospital and charged with Driving While Intoxicated along with vehicle and traffic violations. He was arraigned and released to appear in Venice Town Court at a later date.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 315-253-1222 or tips can be left on the sheriff’s office’s website.
