Town of Seneca Falls Workers Join Union

SHARE NOW

Town of Seneca Falls workers are forming a union with CSEA.

Town Highway, Parks Department, Water Department, and Clerical workers from across the town are organizing a union with CSEA. Leaders of the drive say they are organizing with CSEA for several reasons.

“It’s simple. We want to ensure that the Town of Seneca Falls has a workforce that is well-equipped to meet the needs of our community,” said Adam Passalaqua, Building Maintainer II, Parks and Recreation Department.

“We deserve to have consistency and stability in our wages and benefits despite a town board that changes,” said Dale Gibson, Laborer, Highway Department.

“We asked management to meet with us and discuss a fair process for the town to recognize our local CSEA union. Given our town is the birthplace of the Women’s Suffrage movement and has a rich history of protecting and respecting rights, we expect the town to respect our rights to organize our union,” said, Peter Porcelli, Zoning and Code Enforcement Officer, Code Enforcement Department.

The group says it has delivered a request for voluntary recognition to management and looks forward to a neutral organizing environment. A supermajority of the potential bargaining unit has signed authorization cards choosing to unionize with CSEA. Once certified, CSEA will be their exclusive bargaining representative.

The Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) is one of the largest and most influential unions in New York and the United States. CSEA represents state, county, municipal, school district, childcare, and private sector employees.
