Penn Yan, Geneva ERs Rank at the Top for Patient Discharge

Two local hospitals have the fastest Emergency Department throughput times among all hospitals in the region.

According to data compiled by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital and Geneva General Hospital rank first and second respectively among the Finger Lakes region hospitals. Additionally, the Penn Yan hospital claims the 1st spot in the small hospital category, catering to less than 40 beds, within the Western NY-Rochester region. GGH secures the 1st position for hospitals with over 40 beds in the same region.

This is a result of data compiled by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in their 2023 Ranking of all 147 New York EDs. The ranking methodology was based on the median time from arrival to discharge for patients seeking emergency care. The comprehensive data, covering the period from April 2021 to March 2022, was analyzed and reported in 2023.

“We are immensely proud of this achievement, which underscores our unwavering commitment to providing swift and efficient emergency care to our community,” said Dr. Matthew Talbott, Vice President, Medical Affairs & Chief Medical Officer for UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health. “This recognition reflects the dedication and hard work of our staff who consistently prioritize the well-being and timely treatment of our patients.”
