Past Commander Accused of Stealing $92K From Geneva American Legion

SHARE NOW

A former Commander of the Geneva American Legion has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than $92,000 from the organization.

A ten-month investigation resulted in the arrest Monday of Dale Mosher on felony grand larceny for allegedly stealing $92,968 from the American Legion from December 2015 through May of last year.

According to Sheriff David Cirencione, the investigation into Mosher began shortly after he left office as Commander. The new Commander contacted the Sheriff’s Department after his attempts to obtain past financial records and banking information for the Legion from Mosher were met with resistance. The new commander expressed concerns that possible financial impropriety had occurred at the hands of the former commander based on an initial internal audit conducted by a legion officer.

As a result of this report, a comprehensive and involved criminal investigation was launched, which required subpoenas to be issued to multiple financial institutions. The records were turned over to the New York State Police Financial Crimes Unit, which conducted a forensic audit of all financial records.

Following his arrest Monday, Mosher was arraigned in Ontario County CAP Court and was released pending further court action.
