County executives from across the state have elected Monroe County Executive Adam Bello as second vice president of the New York State County Executives’ Association (NYSCEA).
NYSCEA is an affiliate of the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) and represents the 19 counties that have county executives as their chief elected official. These counties, including the City of New York, represent 16.7 million New Yorkers.
“I am honored and excited to take on this new role at the County Executives’ Association,” said County Executive Bello. “This association is incredibly valuable and provides an opportunity to collaborate with our peers across the state, share ideas, and advocate for new solutions at the state level that can help us deliver results for New Yorkers.”
“County Executive Bello has been an exceptional leader for Monroe County and we’re proud to welcome his service to our association,” said NYSCEA President and Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus. “The County Executives’ Association is about finding common ground and common solutions that benefit all our counties and County Executive Bello has a proven track record of innovation and collaboration that will be a huge asset for us.”
County Executive Bello first took office in 2020 and was immediately confronted with the Covid pandemic. Bello oversaw the distribution of millions of COVID tests and pieces of personal protective equipment while deploying mass vaccination sites for hundreds of thousands of residents.
The County Executive has also been a leader on issues like addressing the opioid epidemic, appointing the county’s first Director of Addiction Services and launching the Monroe County Improving Addiction Coordination Team, or IMPACT.
CE Bello has also been on the forefront of ensuring children with special needs have access to providers and addressing the local government workforce crisis where he launched the innovative RETAIN Monroe program which seeks to close the local jobs gap by incentivizing local graduates to continue living and working in Monroe County.
“I had the honor of working alongside County Executive Bello during the darkest days of the pandemic and saw firsthand his exceptional leadership and commitment to his community,” said NYSCEA Executive Director Stephen Acquario. “Since then, he’s continued to push Monroe County forward on the tough issues that are confronting counties across the state. We’re honored to welcome him to the NYSCEA leadership team.”
As Second Vice President, County Executive Bello will be in line to become president of the association in 2027 following President Steve Neuhaus (Orange County), President- Elect, Jason Garnar (Broome County) and First Vice President, Ryan McMahon (Onondaga)
