Mayor: FBI Investigation Led to Avon Police Chief Suspension

SHARE NOW

The suspension of one Livingston County village’s police chief last week came about following a presentation of evidence by the FBI.

Avon Mayor Thomas Freeman released a statement on Monday that briefly explained the circumstances surrounding the suspension without pay for Chief Joseph Geer on March 20th. The mayor said the village was unaware of any issues until it was served with a subpoena on February 1st. No specific details on those issues were released.

WROC-TV in Rochester reports that the State Comptroller’s Office was looking into “scheduling and bookkeeping” issues within the Avon Police Department earlier this year.

The Avon School District confirmed with the CBS affiliate that the FBI was investigating whether a district service provider submitted false claims for work performed for the district. Geer was listed as a school resource officer but the district did not confirm who was the center of the FBI investigation.
