    A cold front has pushed through the region and temperatures have quickly dropped below freezing and will continue to drop into the low 20s and teens overnight. A brief period of heavy snow with snowfall rates greater than 1 inch per hour is expected through early Tuesday morning. 1 to 3 inches of snow and falling temperatures will produce a flash freeze and icy conditions on untreated roads and surfaces.

Special Olympics Polar Plunge in Canandaigua Saturday

For those ready to “take the plunge” into the freezing waters of Canandaigua Lake, the Canandaigua Polar Plunge is nearly here. On Saturday at noon, attendees from across New York State will gather at Kershaw Park to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics New York athletes in the Genesee Region.

The Polar Plunge is one of the most popular, profitable, and exciting fundraisers for Special Olympics New York. Participants raise money by asking friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintances for donations. Event details are as follows:

When: Saturday, March 23, 2024
            10:00 a.m. – Registration
            12:00 p.m. – Polar Plunge

Where: Kershaw Park, Canandaigua Lake
             155 Lakeshore Drive, Canandaigua, NY 14424

“Polar Plunges are some of the most valuable fundraisers we host each year,” said Special Olympics New York President and CEO Stacey Hengsterman. “They’re an excellent opportunity for people from all over the community to come together and support our athletes. If you join us, you’ll see why so many people return year after year.”

Over the years, members of the Canandaigua community have raised over $250,000. Individuals and teams who’d like to join this year’s Plunge may do so by registering online here.
