A Gorham man suffered a burn to his hand and possible airway burns as he put out a fire inside his home Thursday night.
Investigators say a small appliance under a desk caught on fire in the back of the County Road 17 home. As the fire spread to the desk and walls of the room, Ricky Royer removed burning objects from the home and used an outdoor water hose to put out the fire before firefighters arrived.
In addition to the burns, Royer and another person inside the home, Heather Granger, suffered from smoke inhalation. Both were taken to Strong and are expected to recover.
Gorham Fire and EMS and Finger Lakes Ambulance assisted the Ontario County Sheriff’s Department at the scene.
