The Varick Town Board last week voted to rescind last year’s resolution that supported the Seneca Meadows Landfill and it proposed expansion.
The new resolution stated that after a review they found the first resolution did not reflect the Varick Town Board’s support for all businesses in Seneca County and that the issue is only for the Seneca Falls Town Board.
Seneca Meadows current state operating permit expires at the end of 2025. Seneca Meadows has applied to expand upward in the so-called valley infill area of the old Tantalo landfill portion of the facility. If approved, that would allow the landfill to remain open until 2040.
