Proposed cuts to local school districts across the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier, as well as across the state, included in the proposed New York State Budget are “staggering.” That was the message Thursday by State Senator Tom O’Mara, who spoke at a budget hearing in Albany and detailed how some of the schools within his district could be impacted.
In the proposed budget, a provision called “Hold Harmless” which guarantees districts receive at least the same level of funding every year would be left out. If approved $168 million in foundation aid for schools statewide would be cut.
