SHARE NOW

Three children, all three years old, and an adult monitor were all taken to Schuyler Hospital for a check-over after the Birnie School Bus they were riding on Wednesday morning was involved in an accident on Steuben Street in Montour Falls.

An investigation by the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department determined the bus driver, 63-year-old Russell Decker, of Painted Post, was traveling down the hill when he failed to stay in his lane and drove the bus into a ditch on the west side of the road. The bus came to rest against a rock face, which resulted in damage to its front end.

Decker was issued a ticket for failure to maintain.

The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Montour Falls Fire Department and Schuyler County Emergency Medical Services. The bus was towed by B&W Towing.
