SHARE NOW

After 28 years on the bench, Tompkins County Judge John Rowley will retire in March.

The Ithaca Voice reports Rowley submitted his letter of resignation on Thursday to the Board of Elections. He also notified the New York State Unified Court System of his intentions last week. Rowley will turn 65 next month and he wants to spend time with his six-month-old grandchild.

In his resignation, Rowley stated the Administrative Judge and Rowley’s colleagues in Tompkins County had developed a transitional coverage plan for the rest of the year until residents elect their next judge this fall. Rowley served as Tompkins County Judge for 23 years.

Tompkins County judges are elected every ten years.
