Driver Leads Chase After Taking Off From Traffic Stop in Steuben County

SHARE NOW

A Steuben County man who led police on a pursuit that went through several towns before it was called off earlier this month has been arrested.

On December 7th, Jason Loper was pulled over for a vehicle and traffic violation on Interstate 86 in Bath. Loper, who knew he had an active probation violation warrant out for his arrest, took off from the traffic stop after he was ordered to get out of his car. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department says Loper committed many traffic violations including reckless driving before the pursuit was discontinued due to safety reasons.

After multiple warrants were filed in the towns where the chase occurred, Loper was arrested this week in Bath. He was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree, Reckless Driving, Fleeing an Officer, Speeding, Fail to Stop at a Stop Sign, Uninspected Motor Vehicle, Fail to Keep Right, Fail to Yield Right of Way, Unsafe Turn and Inadequate Lights, as well as Violation of Probation.

Loper was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail.
