Seneca Falls Firefighter Prevented Potential Tragedy During “It’s a Wonderful Life 5K”

Quick thinking by a Seneca Falls firefighter may have prevented a tragedy at Saturday night’s “It’s a Wonderful Life 5K Run.

According to the Seneca Falls Police Department, during the race, a woman from Schenectady County attempted to drive around a barricade and onto Cayuga Street. 66-year-old Catherine Neidbalec of Niskayuna was stopped by the firefighter, who was helping divert traffic.  The firefighter was not identified by police in the news release.

Police responded and after an investigation determined Neidbalec was driving while intoxicated.  In addition to DWI, Neidbalec was charged with driving a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level of above .08% and failure to obey a flag person.

Neidbalec was released on an appearance ticket and will answer the charges in Seneca Falls Town Court at a later date and time.
