Update (1:00p): An anonymous bomb threat was the cause of the Geneva School District’s lockout, Friday.
According to officials, a district employee received the threat via email just before 9:30a. The schools were subsequently locked down.
State Troopers, Geneva Police and Fire Departments, and three Seneca, Wayne, and Ontario County Sheriff’s offices were called in to conduct thorough inspections of all schools. Police say no incendiary devices were found and there was no immediate danger to students or staff.
Police are asking that anyone with information about the threat to contact them at 315-789-1111 or Detective Jordan Dobies at 31-828-6780.
The lockdown has since been lifted and activities have resumed.
(10:30a): The following message was posted by the Geneva City School District on its website:
“At approximately 9:20 a.m. today, Friday, Dec, 1, a threat that we do not believe has any credibility was emailed to the district; however, out of an abundance of caution, we treat all threats as if they are serious. Our school resource officers and the Geneva Police Department were notified, and we have placed all of our schools in Lockout while we conduct an investigation.
Making a threat on a public school can have serious legal and financial consequences for the perpetrator. At the very least, it disrupts the learning environment for the students and consumes staff resources. Please take a moment and remind your children.”
