Bail was denied Thursday for the Cornell University accused of making online threats against Jewish people on campus.
Patrick Dai appeared in a Syracuse federal court for a detention hearing that he initially waved at arraignment but his public defender later requested it. In denying Dai’s bail request, the judge cited the seriousness of the alleged violent crimes and considered him to be a significant flight risk with his father living in China. The court also heard that Dai has attempted to commit suicide twice since being taken into custody.
The FBI says Dai has admitted to making the threats.
The Pittsford man’s mother told the Democrat and Chronicle her son is struggling with mental health and believes his alleged actions are the result of the medication he’s taking.
