Two Killed After Being Hit By Car in Tompkins County

SHARE NOW

Two men are dead after being struck by a car in Tompkins County.

It happened in the 2500 block of Elmira Road in the town of Newfield at around 9:30 Friday night. 42-year-old Patrick Robinson, of Ithaca, lost control of his motorcycle on the wet road and laid his bike down. When a passerby, 34-year-old Mathew Poplawski, of Schenectady, stopped to help Robinson, both were struck by a car. State Police say both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, a 57-year-old man from Illinois, is cooperating with investigators and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The investigation is ongoing.
