SHARE NOW

The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office released updated information regarding an incident that occurred last Thursday at the Finger Lakes Area Counseling and Recovery Agency (FLACRA) in Watkins Glen.

On September 7th at around 3:00 PM, the Schuyler County 911 Center received a call of two individuals that required medical assistance at the Finger Lakes Area Counseling and Recovery Agency (FLACRA) located at 106 S. Perry Street in the Village of Watkins Glen. It was reported that one of the patients that required medical assistance may have been affected by an opioid drug while the other patient was experiencing a diabetic emergency. Schuyler County Emergency Medical Services Ambulance responded and transported the two individuals to Schuyler Hospital.

A short time later an individual and two workers exhibited signs of an exposure to an opioid substance. All three were also transported to Schuyler Hospital.
Out of caution the FLACRA facility as well as the adjoining Community Services facility were evacuated. The Watkins Glen Fire Department and the New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team (NYSPCCERT) were called in to check for hazards that may have been in the area where the five individuals became ill. No hazards were found during this time. Out of caution the NYSPCCERT conducted a decontamination of involved common areas in the building.

All patients were treated and released from the hospital.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were the Watkins Glen Police Department, New York State Police, Schuyler County Emergency Management Office, Watkins Glen Fire Department, and Schuyler County Emergency Medical Services Ambulance.
