With decreased donor turnout this summer and hurricane season causing the cancellation of blood drives, the American Red Cross is in the midst of a national blood shortage. Meg Rossman with the Red Cross told Finger Lakes News Radio they need your help.
“We have an emergency need right now so we’re asking blood donors of all blood types to roll up a sleeve.”
She adds there are multiple ways to register to donate, including going to redcrossblood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS, or downloading the Red Cross donor app. The free app lets you schedule appointments and sign up for a rapid pass which streamlines the donation process.
August 2023 saw a 25% decline in donations compared to last year.
