If you’re a smoker, expect to pay more for a pack of cigarettes starting Friday.
New York State will raise the cigarette tax by one dollar, going from $4.35 to 5$.35 a pack.
The move, approved last spring as part of the state budget, hopes to dissuade new smokers while also encouraging current smokers to quit.
