Gas Prices Trickle Down in New York

SHARE NOW

Monday’s New York State average for a gallon of gasoline is $3.90, down two cents from one week ago. One year ago, the statewide average was $4.15.  The national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.82, down 5 cents from last Monday. One year ago, the price was $3.85.

Triple AAA of Central and Western New York reports the national average for a gallon of gas is down this week, despite growing gas demand as travelers squeeze in that final summer road trip. However, the price of oil has declined several dollars per barrel and is holding steady near $80, contributing to lower pump prices. As Labor Day approaches, gas demand and volatile oil prices, particularly during an active hurricane season, could limit how much lower prices descend in the weeks ahead.

There’s no relief with diesel prices this week. The national average price for diesel is $4.37, up 3 cents from last week, but down from $5.05 a year ago. The New York average for diesel is $4.57, up 1 cent from last week, but lower than $5.36 one year ago.
