The former long-time director of the New York State Sheriff’s Summer Camp on Keuka Lake has passed away.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office report its deputies were called to Dave Sherman’s Southport home early Tuesday morning for an individual suffering from cardiac arrest. Sherman was found unresponsive and with no pulse. Despite life-saving measures being administered at the residence and at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Sherman passed away.

In addition to serving as the director of the annual summer camp for 37 years, Sherman was also a retired physical education teacher from the Elmira City School District and a gymnastics coach.
