In less than a month, the trial will begin for the former Auburn police officer charged with sexually abusing a 14-year-old student while working as a school resource officer at Auburn Schools.
William Morrissey III will go on trial starting September 14th for charges of sexual abuse, disseminating indecent material to a minor, official misconduct, and endangering the welfare of a child. The 33-year-old has admitted to investigators he had contact with a student outside of school – giving her rides, buying her sneakers, and communicating through Snapchat and FaceTime.
If convicted, Morrissey faces up to 14 years in prison followed by 10 years post-release supervision. He would also be required to register as a sex offender.
