    IMPACTS
    The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 15 to 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Very cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure.
    ADDITIONAL DETAILS
    Actual air temperature will be below zero each night through Sunday morning. The prolonged cold could cause pipes to freeze or burst. Daytime high temperatures will climb above zero with afternoon highs of 10 to 20 degrees above zero.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Penn Yan Man Injured in Monday Car Accident

A Penn Yan man suffered a hand injury on Monday when the car he was a passenger in was involved in an accident on Lovejoy Road in Benton.

The driver of the car, 33-year-old Sierra Derr, of Penn Yan, was traveling south at around 12:30 when she swerved to avoid an animal in the road and lost control of her car. The vehicle went off the east side of the road and came to rest in a field.

31-year-old Brandon Thompson was taken to Thompson Hospital by Penn Yan Ambulance for his injury. Derr was not hurt.

The Benton and Bellona Fire Departments responded to the scene as did the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, Yates EMS and the Office of Emergency Services
