Two Arrested for Animal Cruelty in Bath

SHARE NOW

A dog that appeared to be malnourished is being cared for by the Finger Lakes SPCA after its owners were arrested.

A Bath Police officer spotted the mixed breed male being walked by Matthew Machuga and Tyra Green, both 24 years old and living in Bath, on West Morris Street in the village with its ribs, spine, and hip bones visibly protruding the skin. The one-year-old dog was taken to the vet and after an evaluation, it was determined to have a body condition score of 2.5 to 3 out of 9 on the Purina scale and was determined to be emaciated.

Green and Machuga were both arrested on a warrant charging them with failing to provide proper sustenance to the dog by failing to provide proper food and veterinary care.

The Bath Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Finger Lakes SPCA, Bath Dog Control, and Steuben Veterinary Clinic
