First Women’s Walk of Fame Plaques Unveiled

SHARE NOW

The first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, the first female millionaire in American, and one of the organizers of the First Women’s Rights Convention are among the ten women announced Friday for the first bronze plaques for the Seneca Falls Women’s Walk of Fame.

Seneca County Chamber of Commerce President Jeff Shipley reminded those attending the unveiling ceremony at the Generations Bank Headquarters that while Seneca Falls is famous for its women’s history, there is a direct connection to another walk of fame.

The bronze plaques have been created to honor women of distinction in multiple categories in which their work is most recognized in: Social Justice, Military, Arts, STEM, Pioneers, Business, and Athletics.

The plaques were funded in conjunction with the Right to Run 19K, Inc. and will be placed in front of businesses in downtown Seneca Falls, where they are planned to be installed in the sidewalks to resemble the “Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

The first women to be honored include: Lucretia Mott, Donna Reed, Alice Paul, Aretha Franklin, Maya Angelou, Heady Lamarr, Amelia Earhart, Madam C. J. Walker, Susan Ann Cuddy, and Marie Curie.
