SHARE NOW

A bill that aims to increase broadband services across New York, has passed the state senate.

The Bonds for Broadband Bill would establish bonding authority to counties, cities, towns, and villages to issue bonds for broadband and related telecommunications infrastructure.

Cosponsor of the bill, Senator Rachel May, says this will increase broadband access to Upstate New Yorkers in rural areas. Speaking on the senate floor, she said “I look forward to seeing many of our municipalities Upstate be able to really thrive because they are able to provide this service to everybody.”

The bill still needs to be approved by the assembly.
