A Farmington man has been arrested after police allege he abandoned two dogs at his former residence in Stanley last month.
On April 20th, the Ontario County Humane Society received a complaint reporting there were two dogs, possibly abandoned, at 1910 Route 5 & 20 in Stanley. It was reported that the tenants had moved out the month before, on or around March 20th. Upon arrival at this location, one dog was seen looking through the door. There was garbage piled on the porch and refuse could also be seen inside the residence. The property is owned by Casella Waste Management, and a representative was able to allow deputies entrance into the home.
Upon entering the residence, no food or water was visible and feces covered the floor. Further investigation revealed another dog, deceased and decomposing, in an upstairs bedroom. Neither dog had access to food or water, nor was any available and it appeared the deceased dog had starved to death.
At this time, a request was made for law enforcement to assist in this investigation and New York State Police arrived on scene. State Police investigators located and arrested Jose Figueroa the next day. He was charged with Aggravated Cruelty to an animal.

The remains of the deceased dog, a 4-year-old male German shepherd named Apex, were transported to Cornell University for a necropsy. The second dog, an approximately 2-year-old female Husky mix, named Midnight (above), was secured at the Ontario County Humane Society. She was examined by a veterinarian and is recovering from this incident.
