Governor Kathy Hochul needs to close the Seneca Meadows Landfill.
That was the message from about 250-people that turned out Saturday for an Earth Day protest at Waterloo Container across the road from the Seneca Falls landfill.
Skaneateles Town Supervisor Janet Aaron said hundreds of waste trucks destined for Seneca Meadows pass through Skaneateles each year.
The landfill accepts waste from New York City, 47 New York State counties, four other states and Canada. A Seneca Falls town law requires the facility to close by December 31st 2025. But Seneca Meadows is challenging the law in court as it seeks a state permit that would allow it to operate through 2040.
