Police say a Bath man, who has been arrested eight times since last July, took off from a hospital’s emergency room in an attempt to evade capture on pending felony charges against him.
Bath Police initially arrested Derrick Mack-Vasquez during an investigation Thursday night at an East William Street apartment. The 29-year-old allegedly hid between the toilet and a wall after police determined he was in the presence of the protected party of an active stay-away order of protection. Mack-Vasquez resisted arrest and had to be physically taken out of his hiding place.
While in their custody, police say Mack-Vasquez suffered a medical event and was taken to Ira Davenport Hospital for treatment.
Just before 10 Thursday night, Mack-Vasquez apparently took off on foot from the hospital prior to being discharged. He was located a short time later underneath brush in nearby woods as he attempted to hide from police.
Mack-Vasquez was charged with felony criminal contempt and was sent to Steuben County Jail for arraignment.
Some of his previous arrests were for escaping arrest and assaulting a police officer.
