DEC: Seneca Lake Petroleum Cleanup Complete

SHARE NOW

The cleanup is complete, but the investigation into the cause of a petroleum spill last month into Seneca Lake continues.

Department of Environmental Conservation officials say the March 4th spill has been completed and they will continue to monitor the situation.

A 250-gallon container several blocks away from the lake at the corner of Central Avenue and Buffalo Street is where the leak began.  The petroleum-based liquid made it way into a storm drain that led to Marsh Creek and Seneca Lake.

It’s still unclear who owns the property where the tank was located.

The DEC Friday released a new drone photo of the lake showing no spill in the water.
